Video: Cognac country & beautiful region of Poitou Charentes

I thought I’d share a little video, slideshow from a recent trip to the beautiful region of Poitou Charentes.

This was my second visit to the region.

I wasn’t sure what to expect this time around.

It had been an epic trip last time– from exploring the historic bustling port city of La Rochelle and it’s stunning outdoor markets to the sleepy, dreamy canals of the Marais Poitevin and then ending the week walking along the beautiful beaches of Ile De Re, enjoying the best smoked mussels and then embracing the mighty Atlantic at the stunning Phare des Baleines lighthouse.

This time, we saw a different side to the region.

Cognac!

I spent a few days roaming the historic streets of the capital city of the region, Poitiers-enjoying it’s stunning Roman architecture like the stunning Eglise Notre Dame and then enjoying award winning macaroons at Rannou Metivier. I popped in the next day to the stunning Futuroscope- an amusement part for grown-ups who don’t like amusement parks. A lot of fun in 3D and 4D. More fun than Disneyworld in my opinion.

Then I visited the city of Angouleme , home of Tintin’s creater Herge and the International Comics Festival. You can see some great street art here. We then flowed down the dreamy, sleepy Charente river to the beautiful town of Cognac where we had an epic cocktail making session ( video coming soon )before heading to the House of Courvoisier in Jarnac where we learnt about the history of this fine spirit.

These are just some of the highlights of this trip which will you see in the video. So enjoy.

If this has wetted your appetite to discover more about this unique region, please visit the Poitou Charentes website to find out more.
