Introduction

Madeira Carnival is a spectacular event, brimming with excitement, music, and color I attended my first ever ‘Carnaval’ in Funchal, Madeira back in 2015 and it was one of the most memorable nights of my life.I will let the photographs below speak for themselves.

Dates for Carnival Madeira 2025

Typically celebrated in February or March, stretching over a fortnight, the dates for Carnival Madeira 2025 is 26 February till 09 March 2025. The festivities are centered in Funchal, though the entire island joins in the celebration.

What are the main attractions?

1. Main Parade: A spectacular procession with decorated floats and costumed participants. This grand event occurs on the Saturday before Shrove Tuesday.
2. Charity Parade: A community-focused march taking place in Avenida Arriaga, Funchal.
3. Kids’ Parade: A lively procession for children, also held in Avenida Arriaga.
4. Humorous Parade: A comical and satirical march featuring amusing floats and performers.
5. March Contest: Groups compete with unique, original marches, showcasing their creativity.
