Where to eat in Gibraltar

Gibraltar, a melting pot of influences and cultures enjoys an incredible and diverse food scene so you will eat well here plus it is great value for money compared to dining out in Britain. I have compiled a list of where to eat in Gibraltar, based on our recent visit to this beautiful peninsula. If I missed any of your favourites? Please leave a tip in the comments below.

1. Magic Hands Patisserie

Gibraltar’s best bakery that offers a mix of European + Moroccan sweet delicacies

Starting from the Moorish period, Gibraltar’s food culture has enjoyed a range of influences, and a great way to sample this is by popping into one of the many excellent bakeries here. I stumbled upon Magic Hands Patisserie and had a mini savoury-sweet breakfast of tuna borekas, coffee, and pistachio candied walnut-topped cookies.

Tip: For those interested in Moroccan cuisine, El Kasbah comes highly recommended by locals—the mezze sharing platters and lamb tagines are popular, plus they have plenty of vegetarian and vegan options.

2. Tapas by Gauchos

A tapas restaurant sharing passion for flavour and Gibraltar’s traditions using the freshest ingredients

Gambas Pil PIl

Delicious tapas served with a smile in the atmospheric vaults of the Chatham Countergard—everything we ordered here was delicious and incredible value—a special mention for the Iberico Ham Croquettes (£5) and the Gambas Pil Pil (£6.50—order extra bread to mop up the sauce!)

3. Beers at the Clipper

A family-friendly Irish restaurant offering excellent food at reasonable prices with a relaxed atmosphere

Located in the pretty Irish Town quarter of Gibraltar, the Clipper is perfect for those who are craving classic British pub food, plus they have a range of draft beers at affordable prices. Tip: They offer 2 main meals for 2 people for £17.95 from 6pm.

4. Spirit of Rock Distillery

Discover the history of Gin with lots of gin tasting in this fun, interactive tour

Led by the charismatic distiller Peter, guests can learn about the history of gin, the Gibraltar connection with (generous) tastings of 6 types of gins, followed by a delicious gin-based cocktail.

5. Sam’s Kitchen

Gibraltar’s unique plant-based eatery and takeaway

From healthy salads to their crispy BBQ cauliflower wings or plant-based butter “not chicken” wrap to “not duck” don buri and rice (all £8.90)—creative vegan and egg

6. Calentita

Where to enjoy the national dish of Gibraltar

Calentita, Gibraltar’s national dish, is a bit like a pancake or a flan, made from chickpea flour, salt, pepper, and water. It is simple but with a very comforting flavour. I tried it at the Calentita Food Festival, which is a food festival dedicated to the national dish, but there are some restaurants including Amar (1 Covent Place), the oldest bakery in Gibraltar, that will offer calentita on select days.

7. Little Bay Bar and Restaurant

An award-winning Indian restaurant located at Ocean Village serving modern Indian cuisine in elegant surroundings

Some of the best Indian food I have tasted anywhere in the world! The palak paneer (£13.80) was the best I have tasted anywhere, and paired with rice and naan bread, this was a meal to remember.
